Terrestrial fern with a robust, long-creeping, underground stem (rhizome)covered with dark red-brown hairs which are eventually shed. The large, broadly elliptic fronds have a woody stem (stipe) and midrib (rachis) with stiff, leathery leaflets curled downwards at the margins
