Southern Eagle Ray

Myliobatis tenuicaudatus Hector, 1877

A large olive-green, yellow or dark brown to grey on top with pale blue or grey markings; white underneath eagle ray with a variable pattern of greyish-blue spots and bars, and a long tail armed with a spine that is capable of injecting venom.

Sandy flats and seagrass meadows, in estuaries and bays and near rocky reefs. It is usually in shallow water, but has been found as deep as 422 m
