A small puffer fish with a yellow green to brown back covered with dark brown to black irregular spots with four dark bars across the body and is white underneath and has a bright yellow to orange eye.
This species unlike others in this family does not have prominent spines on its body. Like other pufferfish, it can inflate itself with water or air.
This species is abundant in the area with large numbers in the river and along the coastline and is often and unwanted by catch and pest species eating baits off hooks when fishing the river or the shoreline.
