Tall-Ribbed Limpet

About

Oval, conical shell with a relatively low and blunt apex in profile. Shell bears from twelve to thirty broad, rounded radial ribs, which give rise to a deeply-crenulated margin. Apex and ribs often eroded to white. Gaps between the ribs bear narrow, concentric bands or chevrons of black or brown on an off-white background. Shell white internally apart from brown or black staining towards the apex

Can grow to around 40mm

Habitat

Lives intertidally attached to rocks, especially below mid-tide level on moderately sheltered shores

Distribution

South-eastern and south-western Australia From WA to NSW including Tasmania
