Rough Leatherjacket

About

Coarse skin with fine filaments, large dorsal spine, extendable flap of skin on the belly, and a characteristic pattern on the tail fin. The body pattern is somewhat variable, but often includes a dark patch above and just behind the pectoral fin and a network of small polygonal blotches and a short black bar on the upper and lower corners of the tail

Size

Can grow to around 30cm

Habitat

The Rough Leatherjacket is a secretive fish, living amongst dense seagrass and kelp covered rocky reefs

Distribution

shallow temperate marine waters from southern Queensland, around the south of the country and north to the central coast of Western Australia
